Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3/18/2026

In short

  • Our apps contain no third-party analytics and no tracking SDKs.
  • Our apps contain no advertising of any kind.
  • We share no data with third parties — none, ever.
  • Our apps record what a child has done so that parents and educators can review it. All of it is stored on the device only and is never sent to any external server, not even anonymously.
  • No account, no login, no sign-up is required to use our apps.

Who we are

L’Escapadou is an independent French micro-enterprise that develops and publishes educational apps for children, including Writing Wizard. For any question about this policy, write to support@lescapadou.com.

What our apps record — and where it stays

To be useful to parents and teachers, our apps keep track of what a child has done. Depending on the app, this can include:

  • letters, words and shapes practised, and the tracings the child produced;
  • progress, scores, stars and completion history;
  • the student names or nicknames that a parent or teacher chooses to type in;
  • custom word lists, settings and profiles created by an adult.

This information exists for one purpose only: to let the adult in charge see what the child has been doing.

All of this data is written to the app’s local storage on the device and stays there. It is never transmitted to us, to any server of ours, or to anyone else — not in identifiable form, not anonymised, not aggregated. We operate no server that receives app data, and we have no technical means of accessing what is on your device.

If a parent or teacher chooses to type in a student’s real name, that name stays on the device under the same conditions.

You can, of course, export word lists or student activity yourself — for example to email a report or share a PDF. That export is your action and under your control; it is not sent to us.

No third-party analytics

Our apps include no analytics or measurement SDK, no tracking pixel, no attribution or install-attribution tool, no fingerprinting, and no third-party crash-reporting library. We do not read or use the advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android). We do not build usage profiles, and we do not know which features you use.

We may receive anonymous crash reports from Apple or Google if you have chosen to enable diagnostics sharing at the operating-system level — this comes from the platform itself, not from any code in our apps.

No advertising

Our apps display no advertising: no banners, no interstitials, no rewarded video, no sponsored content, no third-party ad networks, and no behavioural targeting. The only apps we ever mention are our own, and only behind the parent gate described below.

No data shared with third parties

We do not sell, rent, trade, disclose or otherwise share user data with third parties. This is not a policy choice we could quietly reverse: there is no data leaving the device to share in the first place, and our apps embed no third-party SDK capable of collecting it.

Purchases and subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see, receive or store payment details, billing addresses or account identifiers. Those platforms handle the transaction under their own privacy policies and provide us only with anonymous, aggregated sales reports. Managing or cancelling a subscription is done through your App Store or Google Play account settings.

If you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to answer you. We do not add it to any mailing list and do not share it. You can ask us at any time to delete our correspondence.

Children’s privacy

Our apps are designed for young children and are built on data minimisation. Because no personal information is collected, transmitted or shared, there is nothing for us to disclose, monetise or lose. Our practices are designed to meet the requirements of COPPA (United States), the GDPR and its provisions on children’s data (European Union), and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.

Sections intended for adults — links to email us, to our other apps, or terms of use  — are placed behind a parent gate: a multiplication or addition must be solved before they can be opened, so that young children cannot reach them on their own.

Schools and districts

Because no student activity ever leaves the device, our apps disclose no education records to us or to anyone else. We receive no student personally identifiable information, and we therefore hold nothing that would fall under FERPA, state student-privacy laws, or a data-processing agreement. Teachers who choose to export or email a student report do so under their own institution’s policies.

Districts requiring a signed privacy agreement or a completed vendor questionnaire can contact us at support@lescapadou.com.

Data retention and deletion

Since we store nothing, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side. On your side, app data is removed when you delete the app profile or uninstall the app.

Note that if you have enabled iCloud Backup, iTunes/Finder backup, or Google backup on your device, your own device backup may include app data. Those backups belong to you and are governed by Apple’s or Google’s policies, not ours.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data. In practice we hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing to retrieve or erase — apart from any email correspondence you have sent us, which we will delete on request. Write to support@lescapadou.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority (in France, the CNIL).

This website

lescapadou.com does not require an account and does not collect personal data for marketing or profiling.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example if we add a feature. The date at the top always reflects the current version. Any change that affected what data our apps handle would be announced clearly rather than added silently.
